In 2021, Poste Italiane’s revenues from mail delivery increased by 9.7% year-on-year to €2.1 billion (+ 8.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, equal to €564 million in the fourth quarter of 2021); volumes increased by 12.2% compared to 2020 (+ 11.0% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020), thanks to the integration of Nexive and the recovery in volumes, which took place as expected in the second half of the year.

Parcels on the rise

Parcel revenues increased by 21.0% year-on-year in 2021 to €1.4 billion (-2.6% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, equal to €384 million in the fourth quarter of 2021), supported by record volumes in the B2C segment in the first half of 2021, exceeding the targets set in the “24SI” Strategic Plan. Parcels delivered in 2021 totalled 249 million.

From vaccines to SPID

Other revenues increased in 2021 by 38.9% year-on-year to € 200 million (+ 76.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, equal to € 62 million in the fourth quarter of 2021), thanks to the distribution of vaccines, commissions arising from the release of digital identities (SPID) and investment in tax credits.

A million parcels a day

In 2021, 1 million parcels were handled per day, with postmen delivering 80 million parcels, recording an increase of 8.7% compared to 2020. Distribution revenues increased in 2021 by 1.3% year-on-year to €4.7 billion (-11.3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, equal to €1.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2021). The operating result (EBIT) grew considerably in 2021, also thanks to cost containment measures, and amounted to – €305 million (+ 48.1% on an annual basis compared to 2020). The operating result for the fourth quarter of 2021 stands at – €281 million from – €344 million in the fourth quarter of 2020.
