With the latest supply of new electric vehicles for deliveries, the Postal Distribution Center in via Ugo La Malfa in Palermo is the first in Sicily to have completed the renewal of the vehicle fleet, now fully compliant with the Company’s green strategy.
The Center now has 28 special three- and four-wheel motorcycles, 8 cars and a van, all 100% zero emissions. The 37 vehicles will be powered by an equal number of electric columns, which are part of a progressive plan of installations which has currently led to the activation of 260 recharging points in the delivery centres of the island.
The green vehicles renewal plan in Sicily
In Sicily, the company vehicle fleet is constantly being renewed with a view to environmental sustainability, with a number of green vehicles close to a thousand: from low-emission endothermic tricycles to fully electric vehicles. Before becoming part of the Poste Italiane fleet, the cars were made functional to the needs of the postal service: compartments and special shelving make it possible to transport boxes and parcels in the cars, while tricycles and quadricycles are equipped with roomy luggage compartments to optimize and facilitate the delivery work.
Not only new means of delivery but also “clean” energy to cover the electricity needs of the sites and achieve the goal of zero net carbon dioxide emissions. Green in Poste Italiane also involves photovoltaics and here too the Palermo site in via Ugo La Malfa is the protagonist with a large system made up of around 2,300 panels. Soon to be activated, the new technology will be able to produce over one million kWh of energy a year, equal to making the entire daytime production cycle of the postal mechanization center self-sufficient.
Poste Italiane’s commitment to eco-sustainability issues
The enrichment of the company vehicle fleet with new totally “green” vehicles also falls within the days of the “Green Month“, which has seen Poste Italiane engaged in supporting awareness of good eco-sustainable practices, also with initiatives on the Sicilian territory. These include the dimming or switching off of the lights in various locations in Sicily on 25 March. The month dedicated to attention to the environment will end on April 22 with Earth Day, an event established by the United Nations to celebrate the protection of the planet.
Poste Italiane’s commitment to the green transition, which in terms of mobility currently translates into 13,000 green vehicles, aims to contribute to the goal of Carbon Neutrality – i.e. zero net emissions of greenhouse gases – set by the company for 2030.
