Poste Italiane’s Polis project won the prize for the most innovative postal initiative of 2023, awarded by the Mediterranean Postal Union. The authoritative body set up in Rome in 2011 brings together the postal operators of the countries bordering the Mediterranean belonging to the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the UN’s specialised agency for the postal sector. The Polis project, winner of the coveted award, aims to transform post offices in the 7,000 municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants by offering public administration services in the most remote areas.
High social impact
Poste Italiane’s project was therefore awarded by the independent PUMed jury for its ‘innovative capacity’ and for its ‘social impact’ generated throughout the country. The new services, envisaged by Polis, will be provided in post offices both at the counter and, later, digitally, by means of 4,000 totems (operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day) that will allow the public to carry out operations autonomously. Through the Polis project, Poste Italiane will also create the largest national network of coworking areas, with 250 sites made available by the company throughout the country.
Sustainable, digital and inclusive development
Through the Polis Project, Poste Italiane intends to play a leading role in the country’s recovery, to the benefit of the general public and their participation in public life, adopting a responsible approach in order to decrease its environmental footprint and contribute to the low-carbon transition of the economy and the entire country. The initiative is also consistent with Poste Italiane’s broader strategy of sustainable, digital and inclusive development.
