It is the expression of Poste Italiane’s traditional spirit of service and confirms the Group’s sense of closeness and attention to the whole community, both on the occasion of events of exceptional importance, such as the Holy Year, and in everyday life – commented the General Manager of Poste Italiane, Giuseppe Lasco -. We are really proud to have made available to tourists and the entire Christian community a work that testifies to the heartfelt participation of Poste Italiane in an event of great significance for humanity such as the Jubilee”.

The Structure

In addition to traditional postal services, the Vatican mobile post office offers a space dedicated to philately, with exclusive products from Poste Italiane and Poste Vaticane. Completely free of architectural barriers, the structure is accessible to all. The office, located in the Charlemagne Wing of the colonnade, has the shape of a 16-sided polygon with glass walls and stands out for the functional distribution of spaces and for the comfort ensured to the public who can have a comfortable central area for waiting, and to the operators arranged on three workstations. The choice of materials with low environmental impact, mainly wood and glass, expresses respect for the solemnity of the place and for the principles of lightness and environmental sustainability that are typical of Poste Italiane. The project is by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi.

In the heart of the Square

The work, carried out in just two months, has a circular window, and also offers those in the office a full view of the square, the churchyard, the basilica and the colonnade: the stop in the post office therefore becomes an opportunity to fully appreciate the majesty, beauty and spirituality of the place, also offering everyone an experience of artistic and religious contemplation.
