The passport application service is available from 6 August at post offices in Bologna, Cagliari and Verona. The service is for residents and people domiciled in the three cities, who will be able to take the required documentation directly to the post office counter without having to go to the police station. When submitting their application, they can choose to collect the passport at the police station or request home delivery. Passport applications can also be submitted for minors and the service is available in 32 post offices in Bologna, 32 in Verona and 17 in Cagliari.
The agreement with the Ministry of the Interior
The passport service is being extended to cities with more than 15,000 inhabitants thanks to the agreement signed between Poste Italiane and the Ministry of the Interior, in light of the success of the initiative launched as part of the Poste Italiane Polis project, which, since last March, has enabled citizens in municipalities with a population of up to 15,000 inhabitants to apply for passports directly at post offices and to access public administration services through digital technology. In September, the service will be gradually extended to Rome, Milan, Naples and all Italian cities.
Improving the lives of citizens
“Poste Italiane once again interprets and fulfils the needs of Italians, making an investment to create services that significantly improve the lives of citizens without weighing in the least on public finance – explained Poste Italiane CEO Matteo Del Fante – I therefore express my satisfaction with the launch of the passport service in large cities as well, representing a fine example of cooperation between businesses and institutions and making the relationship between Italians and the public administration easier and simpler”.
Promise made to citizens
“I am particularly satisfied with the launch of this initiative also in the larger cities, a unique project that is unrivalled in other countries – commented Poste Italiane General Manager Giuseppe Lasco – After the success achieved in the smaller towns included in the Polis project, we have once again kept our word, fulfilling the promise made to citizens to enable our post offices to use the new service by the beginning of August. From now on, thanks to the great work in agreement with the Presidency of the Council, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, applying for and obtaining travel documents in Italy will be easier and more convenient”.
How to apply
To apply for a passport, it will be necessary to book access to the service in the specific section of the Poste Italiane website at https://www.poste.it/prodotti/passaporto-elettronico.html. Next, all you have to do is hand the operator of the chosen post office a valid identity document, your tax code, two photographs (which will be legalised directly at the counter), a €73.50 revenue stamp, and pay the €42.50 fee for an ordinary passport at the post office. For renewals, you will also need to submit the old passport, if available, or in the case of loss or theft of the document, the relevant police report. Thanks to the technological platform provided by the post offices, the same operator will collect the citizen’s personal information and biometric data (fingerprints and photo) and then send the documentation to the reference police office.
