Change of uniform for the capital’s postmen. At the Palazzo delle Poste in Piazza San Silvestro in Rome, the new company uniforms were presented for those who work in the delivery circuit every day, delivering mail, parcels and home services to the public. The presentation took place inside the historic central post office and, precisely, in the premises housing the ‘Poste Storie’ exhibition on the history of Poste Italiane inaugurated on the occasion of the company’s160th anniversary celebration.
The testimonials of the event
Testimonials of the event were three postmen, who arrived in San Silvestro from the city delivery centres on board their electric vehicles. Maddalena Torelli, Head of Operations Management of the Central Area Delivery Service, illustrated the features of the new uniforms. “We chose to present the new company uniforms within ‘Poste Storie’,” Torelli emphasised at the opening, “and in particular close to the area of the exhibition dedicated to the historical uniforms of Poste Italiane, to offer those present an opportunity to see the changes in the various styles of clothing and equipment and how the ‘sartorial’ evolution of company clothing has gone hand in hand with the evolution of the job of postmen and women and the transformations of the delivery service, right up to the contemporary ‘telematic’ postman. The project is in line with the company’s path of sustainability and innovation, and the creation of the new uniforms also directly involved the postmen and women in order to pay due attention to the needs of those who have to wear the uniforms.
Recycled and versatile fabrics
The garments are characterised by a new design that combines functionality and appearance, recycled fabrics to safeguard the environment and versatile garments capable of protecting against the cold in winter and highly breathable for warmer periods, with the classic colours of Poste Italiane, yellow and blue, plus grey. “The distribution of the new uniforms,” added the manager, “is already under way in the first of the city’s 18 Delivery Centres and will soon continue in various phases until it has ‘dressed’ the over 1,600 postmen and women operating daily in the Capital”. A workforce, that of the city’s postmen and women, which has been supplemented since last November with an additional 250 temporary staff to handle the increased volumes typical of the Christmas holidays, which, according to estimates, will be around 45% more than in normal business periods, especially for parcels and e-commerce.
New handhelds and green vehicles
The uniforms will supplement other equipment that the postmen and women of the Capital already have in use, such as the new handhelds that allow services such as the payment of current account bills or sending a registered letter to be offered at home, innovations that together with the deliveries also planned in the afternoon and at weekends make Poste Italiane’s offer increasingly wide-ranging and flexible. A service which in Rome is also ever more sustainable in terms of the environmental policy that the company has long placed at the core of its energy efficiency projects. In particular, with the aim of becoming a ‘zero-emission’ company by 2030, Poste Italiane is progressively replacing its vehicle fleet with new-generation electric, hybrid and endothermic low-emission models used for the delivery of parcels and correspondence. In the city of Rome ‘green’ vehicles already account for around 60% of the entire company fleet’. In detail, the trousers are made of technical and breathable materials, lined with K-Flex fabric, comfortable for those who are constantly on the move, the polo shirts, both long and short sleeved, from highly UV protective fibres. On the outside, the new uniform includes a new 3-in-1 highly protective and lightweight winter jacket with a separate vest that can be adapted to any environment, class 2 for high visibility, in accordance with UNI EN ISO 20471:2017, class 4 for waterproofness and breathability.
